• 8 December 2006: 24th Pan Asian E-Commerce Alliance Steering Committee Meeting in Sanya

    The 24th PAA Steering Committee meeting was held in Sanya, Hainan Island from 7th to 8th December 2006.

    The Pan-Asian E-Commerce Alliance, (the PAA) established in July 2000, is the regional e-Commerce alliance in Asia that provides secure and reliable IT infrastructure to promote efficient global trade and logistics. Current PAA Members comprise Tradelink of Hong Kong, Trade-Van of Chinese Taipei, CrimsonLogic of Singapore, KTNET of Korea, CIECC of China, TEDI Club of Japan, Dagang Net of Malaysia, TEDMEV of Macau and CAT Telecom Public Co. Ltd of Thailand.

    Mr. Ding Qiang, Chairman of the PAA and General Manager of CIECC said: “While the demand and adoption of PAA services have grown continuously and significantly, it is encouraging to see that the alliance is actively identifying new opportunities and looking at ways to further enhance our offerings. Special taskforces have been established to bring PAA to the next level from the project management, technical and marketing prospective. I have every confidence that the industry will soon experience a quantum leap in the range of PAA services as well as the quality of our services.”

    The PAA also welcomed Nippon Automated Cargo And Port Consolidated System, Inc. of Japan (NACCS) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) to the meeting. “It is our pleasure of having NACCS and IATA attending our meeting. PAA looks forward to exploring possibilities with both organizations and bringing values and benefits to all the economies and stakeholders being involved.” Mr. Ding said.

    Director of CIECC, Mr. Liu Junsheng expressed his warm welcome to all the PAA members and congratulated the achievements PAA has made. “The PAA framework and services are fast becoming a showcase for paperless trade in the APEC region. The value PAA brings has fostered the development of secure cross border electronic trade transactions for the Pan-Asia region and beyond. I look forward to seeing PAA continue its endeavor and making more contribution to the community.” said Mr. Liu.

    Mr. Liu also informed the gathering about CIECC’s mission in promoting China’s international paperless trade ever since the establishment of the organization a decade ago. Collaborating with PAA, CIECC is currently in the process of constructing an integrated trade service platform to offer services in the areas of information, finance and logistics. With the full support from the Government, CIECC has in excess of 97 branch offices to provide services in various provinces and cities of China. CIECC is committed to leverage its strong presence in the mainland, and works hand in hand with PAA on developing both the local and overseas markets. “Sharing the common vision in paperless trade, I see a brilliant future for all the PAA members.” Mr. Liu stated.

    Mr. Ding Qiang has completed his term of chairmanship, the Steering Committee unanimously elected Mr. Amiruddin Abdul Aziz of Dagang Net, Mr. Justin Yue of Tradelink, as chairman and deputy chairman of PAA respectively for the coming term of 2007 to 2008.

    The 25th PAA Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Singapore in April 2007.
