Recognized Innovative Cross Border Trade Services by PAN-ASIAN E-COMMERCE ALLIANCE

August 11th 2016

Bandung Indonesia, 12 August 2016 – The 53rd Pan-Asian e-Commerce Alliance (“PAA”) Steering Committee meeting, hosted by PT. Electronic Data Interchange Indonesia (PT EDII), was held from 11th to 12th August 2016 in Bandung, Indonesia. Members from 11 economies focused on new initiatives to add value to services to clients, as well as new opportunities on cross border paperless trade.

Mr Helmi Wantono, President Director of PT EDII welcomed PAA members and appreciated the collaboration to enhance trade facilitation. The contribution from members continue to make an impact for efficient trade flows.  Mr Henri Soebiakto, the Minister Experts Staff on communication and mass media on behalf of Minister of Communication and Informatics, and Mr Djatmiko, Chairman of Indonesia National Single Window Operating Agency, also expressed a warm welcome to PAA members and acknowledged their initiatives to improve the paperless cross border trade.

PAA Chairman, Mr. Francis Lopez, drew attention to the PAA members’ effort to improve the cross border experience by providing more tailor-made and value-added services. “PAA is committed to facilitate the cross border trade through different initiatives and continuously enhance our services across the value chain. We work closely with the international organizations on electronic Certificate of Origin and Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary certification.” Mr. Lopez said.

The Pan Asian Exchange continues to evolve with the products of nearly 10,000 companies in its database. An additional focus on identifying a market niche and recruiting key buyers will be a key priority going forward.

A highlight of the meeting was the discussions on collaboration with the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.  They were keen to establish seamless exchange of e-Certificate of Origin and participate in the Pan Asian Exchange.  Another interesting opportunity for collaboration was with the CITES Secretariat for implementation of electronic CITES permits and cross border exchange of the permits.

Looking ahead, PAA started an initiative to explore the use of blockchain to help in trade logistics and finance.

The 54th PAA Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Thailand on 8th to 9th December 2016.
