Putrajaya, 17 April 2015 –The 49th Pan Asian e-Commerce Alliance (“PAA”) Steering Committee meeting, hosted by Dagang NeXchange Berhad (“DNeX”) through its subsidiary company Dagang Net, started on a high note with key representatives of the alliance completing the meeting with productive deliberation and discussion during 16th to 17th April 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Continuing on the successful first day, the alliance announced the launch of its business-to-business (“B2B”) e-Marketplace, known as the Pan Asia Exchange (“PAE”) during the Welcome Dinner held in the evening. The honourable Dato’ Sri Khazali Ahmad, Director General of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Datuk Syed Ali Alattas, President of the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Malaysia were invited to the Welcome Dinner to launch the PAE.

Datuk Samsul Husin, Executive Deputy Chairman of DNeX shared the latest development on logistics and trade facilitation in Malaysia. “Malaysia is giving strong emphasis on the development of its logistics and trade facilitation sectors. Just last month, our Honourable Prime Minister launched the country’s Services Sector Masterplan which entailed the formulation of the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Blueprint. The plan aims to provide strategic direction to increase economic efficiency and stimulate exports”, Datuk Samsul Husin said.

PAA Chairman, Mr. Francis Lopez, in his speech drew attention to a huge opportunity for PAA to take leadership on the important and growing B2B ecommerce market segment. Riding on the digital wave, the PAE is well positioned to tap the USD6.7 trillion ecommerce market by 2020*. In 2014, the 11 members’ economies contributed 80% of the total USD 5.5 trillion exports in Asia. Recognising this opportunity, the PAA leveraged on members’ experience and domain knowledge in ecommerce industry to develop PAE as a trusted e-marketplace.

In his keynote address, Dato’ Sri Khazali Ahmad, Director General of The Royal Malaysian Customs department said, ”The aspirations of the PAA to enable secure and reliable transmission of trade and logistics documents aligns well with the Malaysian Government’s Transformation Plan. The Royal Malaysian Customs Department takes the view that initiatives undertaken by PAA will further complement our ongoing efforts to modernize trade facilitation in the country.”

Datuk Syed Ali Alattas, President of the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NACCIM), said “PAE comes at such an opportune time when globalisation and liberalisation of services are at its height. The convenience and empowerment offered by PAE will undeniably enable Malaysian merchants, particularly those within the small to medium enterprise cluster, to jump on the “borderless business” bandwagon.”

Accessible at www.panasiaexchange.net, PAE is a trusted B2B e-Marketplace that enables businesses in Asia to showcase their products and services online.

PAE is an initiative of the PAA, an alliance formed by 11 service providers that are authorised by Customs and other trade regulatory agencies in their respective economies. Collectively, PAA members already have an existing customer base of over 340,000 users who are potential subscribers of this e-Marketplace.

The 50th PAA Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Macao on 20th to 21st August 2015.
