PAN ASIAN E-COMMERCE ALLIANCE sets sail in PAA e-Marketplace development
Beijing, 22 August 2014 – The 47th Pan Asian e-Commerce Alliance (“PAA”) Steering Committee meeting, hosted by China International Electronic Commerce Center (CIECC) was held from 21st to 22nd August 2014 in Beijing, China.
The Meeting reviewed the PAA’s participation in and contribution to bilateral and multilateral cooperation on trade facilitation initiatives and agreed to increase efforts in gaining international recognition or its contribution to international trade flows. Members expressed satisfaction of the work that PAA has done to facilitate and improve seamless trade transactions in the region.
The guest of honor, Mr. Cai Yudong, the Deputy Director General of e-Commerce Division, Ministry of Commerce, China expressed warm welcome to PAA members from 11 member economies and said, “The Pan Asian e-Commerce Alliance, since its establishment, has been carrying on the mission to promote and provide secure, trusted, reliable and value-adding IT infrastructure and facilities so as to achieve cross border paperless trading in the region. The creative e-Commerce collaboration model has proven to facilitate the communication and interaction in e-Commerce area among the member economies.”
Mr. Zhang Daming, the Vice President of CIECC, also emphasized on the continued value of PAA’s collaborative contribution to the stakeholders and said, “Over the past years, the strong partnership of PAA enabled the members to leverage on their respective strengths in servicing the e-Commerce trend. This puts PAA on a firm footing in the international trade arena. CIECC, being one of the founding members, would like to have more extensive collaborations with PAA members to facilitate the e-Commerce development policy in China.”
PAA Chairperson, Mr. Michael Wu stressed the role of private sector service providers in connecting the trading community in cross border transactions whilst fully meeting public sector requirements whether in bilateral or multilateral environments. “Our domain knowledge, our intimate knowledge of the import/export regimes of our respective jurisdictions, our ability to work closely with our own Customs Authorities, our technical excellence, our trustworthiness and, most important of all, our ability to collaborate with each other are the values service providers like us bring to the table.”
The 47th PAA Meeting in Beijing also put the final touches on the PAA e-Marketplace project, an initiative which leverages on the dominance and market niche that PAA members built in their respective member economies to form a platform for global buyers to search for genuine suppliers from the world’s most prolific trade hub.
The 48th PAA Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Singapore on 4th to 5th December 2014.
